Mark Mykleby retired from the Marine Corps with the rank of colonel in July 2011. His last assignment was as a Special Strategic Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in which capacity he co-authored (with Navy Captain Wayne Porter) A National Strategic Narrative, a groundbreaking concept for a 21st Century American grand strategy based on sustainability.
